#MondayMotivation Midterm analysis
#MondayMotivation am I right? For those of you that may not completely understand the posts on that thread, I hope to enlighten you with the deeper meanings behind all the posts dealing with this hashtag. Although some may see it as a hashtag and posts dealing with inspirational words to get up on a Monday morning for work, there is some deeper meaning being lost in transit as you could say to the interpretation you are getting from the posts themselves. Choosing mostly viral posts ranging from large companies to the usual celebrity here and there I hope to portray a little more on what it means to really post on the thread #MondayMotivation. Breaking down my analysis I have chosen twenty posts from the thread that have similar meanings but breaking them in two, showing two very important parts of the thread that is not only seen on #MondayMotivation thread but any other thread if you look hard enough for it. Through the use of celebrities, sports stars, teams, and activists I intend to show viewers of this blog the way identity work/performance play a large part in what we post on social media. Now for the second part using posts from disney, and other popular things like Elder Scrolls online posts viewers can see a trend of posts from the thread that share the common goal of marketing their product whether that be blatantly or in a subtle manner these posts and their intentions are pure to their creation of just being fluff when it comes to being on the thread. Now that the majority of what is going on is out of the way of the analysis, the rest of the blog will be specifically describing each post determining what it falls under when applied to the readings we have done and discussed in our Facebook thread for class. Two themes will be followed throughout the analysis of the thread's posts, one is "stickiness" measuring the success in online commerce and "representation."
In Henry Jenkins, Sam Ford, and Joshua Green's Spreadable Media "stickiness" on page 26, "broadly refers to the need to create content that attracts audience attention and engagement." In a simpler form it is in certain circumstances the thing that is "irresistible."
For Lee Humphreys The Qualified Selfrepresentation is defined on page 70 with this quote, "When people perform their identities through media accounting, they create representations. The media traces they write or create become texts which can be read by themselves and others. Thumin argues that the mediation of those traces matter because unlike performances which may be fleeting, representation is defined by mediation.
Through the use of these definitions of how identity works and marketing works on social media I noticed a trend with the posts, that the first ten had the similar representation stated above and the last ten fell under the idea of "stickiness" that everybody wants what is irresistible to them and theres nothing more irresistible than new products or old popular ones. The need for something to stick is the motive no matter if it is dominant culture or residual(like childhood movies). Dominant and residual are apart of Raymond Williams four cultural practices but for blog you will only need dominant(what is mainstream cultural practices or content) and residual(somewhat out of style culture) due to the content being marketed in the posts.
Jumping into the content now the with identity work and marketing being analyzed, the explanations of each post should create a trend of its own for the audience of the blog to follow.

(Desiigner) Desiigner being a popular rap artist has a large backing of followers but not as much content being pushed out lately. He is performing his role properly as being the artist on the decline and acknowledging it but reassuring his fans that something good will eventually come and to not lose faith. The representation he is trying to make is one of gratitude and apologies for those loyal to his fandom successfully connecting with his fans by giving them advice as well as himself.Keep Your Head Up #MondayMotivation— Desiigner (@LifeOfDesiigner) July 23, 2018
(Harlem Globetrotters) Being a performance based group on a basketball court the globe trotters know how to perform their roles as a influence on and off the court spreading joy to others especially children of all ages. This picture of them playing with a makeshift hoop in a poverty stricken countries show how much they care for their fairs and how much they appreciate the lives they live by representing it by taking photo of some of the globetrotters playing with the kids and their hoop successfully reaching out to all their fans and showing what they want to be perceived as and that is a caring team. When we visited Mozambique, we discovered this "hoop" made of a bicycle rim attached to a tree with a ripped up grain seed sack attached as the net. They taught us to appreciate what you have and enjoy life! And that is some #MondayMotivation. pic.twitter.com/XK95J209Q4— Harlem Globetrotters (@Globies) July 23, 2018
(Hunter Pence) A representation within itself with a positive and negative character being described and showing that he wants all of us to be the plus and be positive, successfully showing others that it is better to be the positive guy than the negative one.Be like the little red guy #MondayMotivation pic.twitter.com/TiVuUwhLT6— Hunter Pence (@hunterpence) July 23, 2018
(Pitbull tweet) Although Pitbull has never really been seen to economically struggle, he is representing his struggle to becoming famous and that he turned nothing (himself) into something (a pop star). Although referring to himself he connects with his fans and viewers of the tweet in a successful manner. The greatest skill is the ability to make something out of nothing.#MondayMotivation— Pitbull (@pitbull) July 23, 2018
(Sugar Ray Leonard) An old school championship boxer and retired represents himself in a manner to persuade others to do as he does showing that no matter what you are doing with how much or how little time you have to spare you can always make yourself better in some shape or form. This represents Sugar Ray perfectly especially his performance as a grinder in the gym and a relentless fighter in the ring. This morning I only had ten minutes to get a workout in, but I still make no excuses! (Virginia Tech Football) Same thing as the baseball post although this is a new post dealing with the representation of lifting in the off season will change the outcome of the season a head, though not performed to its potentially the performances made by the player within the video performed the identity wanted by the program being viewed by the online public of this thread.Hard. (VisoanaryMusicGroup) Being a some what small music group until the rise of Logic as an artist, visionarymusicgroup represents itself in a manner that is homegrown and that if their company and artist could make it then their peers of their sight can do it too. They represent their identity perfectly with how they perform their business in our society. (Disney Pixar) Using residual cultural practice and the stickiness of the movie in its prime, disney allows for viewers of this tweet to remember the good that rattotoui brought to them bringing viewer back to purchasing and downloading the movie."You must not let anyone define your limits because of where you come from. Your only limit is your soul." #MondayMotivation pic.twitter.com/ifr4q6NQl0— Disney•Pixar (@DisneyPixar) July 23, 2018
(Blitz game) Rides the dominant culture practice in the since of it trying to come out as being apart of what sticks and finding a place for itself. Although I really don't see this product going very far especially with the loss of toys r us. Independent creators are kind of under the strain of the bigger companies and no matter how hard they push their product like this on threads especially this one they will never succeed.#mondaymotivation checkout our newest game that was reviewed @TTPM B3 Blitz from Creative Brainworks LLC https://t.co/F4fI1IqxPt via @YouTube pic.twitter.com/dHtCyN9NEh— Bean Bag Bucketz (@BeanBagBucketz) July 23, 2018
— Station 19 (@Station19) July 23, 2018(station 19 tv show) Never heard of the show until now and probably the rest of my social media class so you could say it may stick due to some of my classmates including myself giving it a shot until there is something else irresistible to us.
— DreamWorks Trolls (@Trolls) July 23, 2018(trolls) Riding the the same wave as disney's post dream works is trying to push their content from residual back into dominant again but with maybe minor success will eventually go from residual to the eventual archaic stage of the movie in popularity.
(DJ Sbu) Stickiness is found all over this post with new content and photos all over it, screaming the "the new age has arrived."Like prior tweets this post may actually have an eventual chance at sticking around.#MondayMotivation— DJ Sbu (@djsbu) July 23, 2018
Promote what you love instead of bashing what you hate. Your energy must always be focused on pushing your passion. The rest just ignore and keep it moving. Stay in your lane shut up & let your work speak for itself 🔥🔥🔥 pic.twitter.com/Bo516cmHHH
(Elder Scrolls Online) Skyrim may be a better game but elder scrolls does have a lot of posts going for it. The crab works perfectly in marketing the product due to it actually being an annoyance in the game, you can never get away from these little buggers in game so what do you think will happen when you try to stop thinking about them chasing after in game, I'm guessing you won't until you play it again which successfully sells the product back to the viewers yet again.Even the tiniest mudcrab can muster a mighty pinch. 🦀#MondayMotivation #ESO pic.twitter.com/7wqemVRCmV— The Elder Scrolls Online (@TESOnline) July 23, 2018
(Bill Roseanne) Being the maker of the next Spider-Man game, this post successfully hits on gamers and what they want most which is the next game to come out driving that irresistible need to reserve it because you just can't wait any longer and want the BETA."I'll fight as I've never fought before!! (Gulfstream Aerospace) What a funny find, a extremely successful and funny post that gets the dominant edge when it comes to sticking around, you can even see that from the funny bio left on their page saying that retweets and follows don't mean you get endorsed. (HelenTheShark) Following the successful trends of shark week and kicking it off right as a parody account of what was going on with the show it has created a lot of conversation on this threads post alone and an influx on the page due to the prominence of this week with shark with. It is at least dominant for now and a sticky scheme to follow for those online including myself centralizing online attention to both the account as well as the discovery channel.Print and put up on your office door, you shouldn’t be disturbed! #sharkweek #mondaymotivation #mondaymorning pic.twitter.com/MAHZ2Sf5iH— HelenTheShark (@HelenTheShark) July 23, 2018
(VapeWild) Understanding the idea behind posts with the mosts views and holding people's attention the longest the account's company found that Christmas was a great way to catch viewers attention of the tweet and making them think they are really getting a coupon/discount which almost anybody could get caught in the usual trap of centralized material. Great marketing skill but terrible way to get stuck on a website with no back button. Overall the analysis made over the twenty post found that the majority of the post found within the thread itself were never really inspirational for the viewers of the thread but instead about personal gave by a given company or a person asserting their identity through representation by traces of text online. Through the use of defining representation and how each post was successful in their own way of portraying identity the tweets can be seen for the real reason they were made and posted including the posts made by marketers trying to centralize their product in a given post for viewers to get caught in the "stickiness" of them. After reading the end analysis of the twitter posts found and used, viewers can interpret the posts for what they really are as Monday's evil spawn to justify waking up for work by others justifying their own identity as well as marketers throwing their product in your face on thread all over social media.☃☃CHRISTMAS IN JULY☃☃— VapeWild (@VapeWild) July 24, 2018
